The ivy

You advance by leaning, and you end up covering whatever you leaned on. Botanical fact: ivy is not a parasite, it grips with small adventitious rootlets but draws all its food from the soil, not from the tree it climbs. That is your defence and it is accurate: you take nothing from anyone. The problem is weight and shade, because a support entirely covered eventually stops seeing daylight.
