The fern

You occupy the corners, you hate direct light, and you have been here far longer than anyone assumes. Botanical fact: ferns have neither flowers nor seeds, they reproduce by spores, and they covered the Earth long before flowering plants appeared. So you have never needed anyone else's showy apparatus to last. Your risk runs the other way: by never signalling yourself, you get left out of decisions that concern you.
