The triangle

It's the only naturally rigid figure: you cannot deform a triangle without breaking a side, which is why it underpins every steel structure ever built. You point in one direction and don't deform on the way. Upside: you arrive. Downside: an apex is a very narrow place, and you're often alone up there without having noticed the others drop off.
